Southwest Detroit FIRST Robotics Team Advances to World Championship in Houston Cesar Chavez Academy to Represent Detroit on the Global Stage
33 Local Youth to Represent Detroit on the Global Stage
Detroit, MI , April, 8th — The Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation (DHDC) proudly announces that Cesar Chavez academy AzTech Eagles First Robotics Team has earned a place at the prestigious FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, Texas on April 14th.
After an incredible showing at the state competition, this group of 33 dedicated students from our Robotics Engineering Center of Detroit (RECD) will now compete against teams from around the globe.
“This is more than just a competition. This is a life-changing experience for our kids,” said Angie Reyes, DHDC’s Executive Director. “They’ve worked tirelessly after school and on weekends, designing, building, and coding with passion, teamwork, and innovation. We couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve accomplished. These young people the best and brightest of our community.”
The Robotics Engineering Center of Detroit (RECD) , at DHDC provides over 150 youth in seven FIRST robotics teams in southwest Detroit access to advanced technologies, hands-on STEM professional mentors and coaches and a space to grow their skills. Through this program they held open doors to college, careers, and brighter futures.
“We are extremely proud of our César Chávez robotics students from team AzTech Eagles 4680. Our students are talented, dedicated, driven, and hard working which has equated to a successful season. We are excited to see their continued performance at the First Robotics’ World competition-si se puede!” said Carissa Rusnak, School Leader of Cesar Chavez Academy.
Now, as the team prepares to head to Houston, DHDC are calling on the Detroit Metro community, businesses, and supporters to help sponsor this journey. Travel, lodging, meals, and materials require significant funding of $30,000 — and your support can make the difference.
