DHDC’s Social EntrepreneurshiP
Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation encourages social entrepreneurship with our members. Our organization has established two projects that are operated by DHDC program participants- Fantazma Market & Café and Urban Graphix Print Shop.
Fantazma Market & Café
Fantazma Market and Café is a community vendor market developed within DHDC and launched in July 2021. The project goal is to develop a job and entrepreneurial pathway for DHDC program participants, and self owned small businesses within the metro Detroit area.
“Fantazma” is Spanish for “ghost”. This concept combines the ghost kitchen idea with the dining hall and vendor market experience that disappears during the week and reappears on Fridays. The events will rotate a different pop-up chef, live performances by local artist and an assortment of vendors; granting our small businesses the opportunity to operate in a prime developing area of Detroit.
Our weekly vendor market gives small startup businesses opportunities to get their products in front of a new clientele, prove original concepts, monetize ideas, and incubate with other small businesses on a weekly basis. This project is a pipeline for local entrepreneurs to prove their business concept and prepare them to move on to brick-and-mortar spaces in the future. Fantazma caters to majority of Latino, Black, Indigenous, and Women owned businesses within the market, ensuring 75-85% of impacted businesses are BIPOC owned. We are also well-known to venue for local artists, musicians and creatives to allow them showcase their artistry and become compensated for their work in an environment that provides exposure to people within the community.
Sponsors include Verita, Kresge Foundation, Wayne County, JP Morgan Chase, and Rocket Community Fund.
